Recording guide

Record your scrims for the best stats.

HILLSIGHT reads the score bar, the hill timer and both team scoreboards straight from your video. Five minutes of setup is all it takes for clean results every scrim.

COD Caster view

Record your scrims from COD Caster with the full HUD on screen. What we need to see at all times:

Following a player inside COD Caster is fine, as long as the score bar and both scoreboards stay visible.

Start recording before the first game begins. A game that is already running when the recording starts can't be read completely and is skipped.

Resolution & quality

Resolution

Record in 1080p (1920×1080) or higher. Scoreboard numbers are small: below 1080p they get too blurry to read reliably. 1440p and 4K work too, 1080p is the best balance between quality and file size.

Local recording (OBS, Elgato…)

Use a quality-based rate control (CQP or CRF around 18–20) rather than a low fixed bitrate. If you use a fixed bitrate, stay at 8,000 kbps or more at 1080p.

Stream recordings

A VOD downloaded from a stream works if it was streamed at 1080p with at least 6,000 kbps. A local recording is always better: platforms compress the video again.

Quick test: pause your video on the scoreboard. If you can read every K/D without zooming, we can too.

Team colors

We tell the teams apart, and see who holds the hill, from the color of the hill icon and the scoreboards. Two bright, clearly different colors give the best results.

Recommended

Bright yellow Bright cyan Bright blue Bright green

Avoid

Default caster red Dark red Dark purple Gray or dark blue White
Never give both teams similar colors (for example blue and cyan): the hill icon would look the same for both teams. White and gray are also read as "nobody on the hill".
